Set Environment Error in RHEL4

Hi, All
I want to set Environment in RHEL4.
But i got error.
[root@ipst pratchaya]# $NLS_LANG=THAI_THAILAND.TH8TISASCII; export
NLS_LANG
bash: =THAI_THAILAND.TH8TISASCII: command not found
[root@ipst pratchaya]#
what should i do next ?

and go with this line.

(Multi-user environment such as telnet)
In UNIX environment, set the environment variable as follows:
In born, korn shell
$NLS_LANG=THAI_THAILAND.TH8TISASCII; export NLS_LANG

PS. i want to set oracle that support thai.
