FC4 and DVD burner

By cdrecord --scanbus and by the name on the burner I have this.

'TSSTcorp' 'CD/DVDW TS-H552B' 'GA02' Removable CD-ROM

I am interested in seeing if I should replace it after trying about everything. I have used cdrecord on two other machines with different CD burners and although never quite happy they have always worked.

What happened was, the scanbus drive came with a machine loaded with some version of Windows with Nero. I immediately burned the FC4 DVD.iso file and wiped out windows. It worked perfectly. But under FC4 it will not create a working DVD or CD-ROM. My guess it is cleverly not quite standard. I get an error saying it does not get a valid sector (0) and uses -150.

I have googled this burner and find no mention problems with it.

I have also tried the version of cdrecord that works on another machine to burn and CD-ROM and it does not work.

I think I have eliminated all the possibilities but still cannot explain why Nero worked other than inside info on this particular burner.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I drop $50 on a new burner and then kick myself for not using the right --switch? I am looking at name brands rather than whomever TSST but that is just a wing and a prayer.
