While stranded on the hard shoulder of the information super highway nospam@xxxxxxxxxxx typed:
Hi,
Did anyone experience the following problem:
In my /etc/yum.conf file I normally have openoffice* excluded for updates.
Openoffice is sooo big, I don't want to spend my time waiting for
downloading every new update of openoffice when I type "yum update" on my
command line.
But this time I had a free evening, and decided to update openoffice using
yum.
After the update was finished I started oowriter but it got stuck when the
OpenOffice opening screen appeared. Same story with oocalc. I could not
start my office applications anymore :-(
I reinstalled my original old 1.9beta version from a FC4 installation
DVD using "rpm -Uvh --oldpackage" This one still worked.
One of these days I have plans to upgrade from FC4 to FC5, but I wnat to
be sure OpenOffice works. I don't want to do a clean FC5 install if I
don't have to. I'd rather just update.
I upgraded from 1.9beta to 2.0 at work, but I didn't do it via yum.
I downloaded the rpms, uninstalled 1.9beta and installed the new rpms.
No problems at all. I've never trusted yum, up2date, etc; if I want to
upgrade anything, I always download the rpms and do it myself. It always
works this way. I guess the only downside is you have to handle the
dependancies yourself.
