The same happens with an external modem www.chronos.com.tw Smartscm/56.
When I was running an external dial up modem, core3 and core4 didn't find it. That didn't matter, the serial port that the modem attaches to just needs to be configured, in my case this was "/dev/ttyS0". The modem how to should have the details, Sorry it's a while since I did it and I forget the details.
