I picked up one of those Parralel port print servers. Basically it hooks
up a printer directly to the network router.
I had to do this because our Win/xp(home) laptops would lose their
connections to the samba printer every time they reboot. This allows them
to print and one of the laptops is my Wife's primary computer.
Now my question is, Is it possible for my linux box to print to this
printer and how would I set it up?
Thx, Terry
You might have been able to configure your samba printers to not
require a password. That way when your windows PCs booted, they
could print and not need to be authenticated.
Or you could have had the windows boxes run a script from their
startup folder that did something like:
net use \\linux\printer /user:userid password
and logged into the printer to use it.
On your print server... if you have that setup and working
for windows and want Linux to use it, it depends on how
the windows boxes use it... if they see it as a \\computer\printer
share then you can configure your print stuff to use \\computer\printer.
If they use ipp, port 631 ( I have a USB Print Server that uses this )
then you may be out of luck. I don't think that Linux can use ipp on
port 631 to one of these devices. I have a USR Wireless Print server.
If someone can get linux printing on one of those, let me know.
