Hi Guys
A bit difficult task for me is aked by my management. My management
wants to implement logical partitions ( in terms of Processors and
memory and other resources ) on a newly purchased HP proliant server.
I have few questions , which i believe may appear foolish to u
experienced guys but still have no other options than to ask:
1. There are no RED HAT CDs with this new system . Should i ask HP
server provider to provide RED hat Linux CDs ( company has to purchase
license , off course ) or i can download the enterprise distribution of
red hat linux.
2. How can i implement Lpars here ... i have an IBM background where
HMC ( hardware management console ) is there to do all laprs and
resources distribution.
Will it be done on HP server basis or on Linux OS basis.
I appreciate if you guys may help me with some web links and guides
also.
Thanks
Regards
Huy Jones
I believe that Lpars is an IBM-hardware-only thing.
There's a commercial product called Virtuozzo (http://www.virtuozzo.com).
It's a new efficient method of creating virutal servers with dedictated assigned resources,
all the while sharing common items such as the kernel and system patches.
The opensource version is called OpenVZ.
