It didn't work. I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled Linux from scratch. I
added the livna repositories to yum via rpm. Then I did an update using
yum.
after that, I installed kmod-fglrx and xorg-x11-drv-fglrx using yum.
I ran ati-fglrx-config-display enable, followed by aticonfig -- initial
I rebooted, selected the newest kernel with GRUB. The redhat graphical
boot-up started, got as far as displaying a message that said it was
checking for kmod-fglrx.
The screen turned blue, like it did when the x-server was starting before I
installed the ati drivers. Then it turned black. Nothing else. Just a
black screen.
I'd love to post information from a log file, but my linux install is
completely unusable and unresponsive. I tried CTRL-ALT-F1 through F6 to
switch from an X terminal to text, but that didn't work. About all I can do
is press the machine's reset button and reboot into Windows in order to post
this message...
Any suggestions? I know I'm not providing nearly enough information, but
that's all I can give you.
