Just how does one change the monitor and its dimensions in 6.2? height, width, color and maybe type (IBM, HP, Viewsonic,...).

You do it in the /etc/X11/xfree86.conf file.
Why are you using 6.2, is it because you want to party like it's 1999?
Well, I took a look at XFree86config and it looks like it is driven by Xconfigurator. Not sure what to make of all that. I returned to the install to see if I could find a better combo that would give me a better resolution with the Futura K9054L display (LP995 equivalent) and the S3 Trio 3K graphics card. I couldn't find anything that worked other than using generic for the display and card. I think I'll try again with another display, 17" Mag--I think.
