Seriously, there is a configuration variable in Thunderbird that allows
you to set a line width - it might be in one of the editor functions.

That's 76 characters wide.
I think you mean mailnews.wraplength. Default is 72. And maybe,news.wrap_long_lines. Default is True. Or maybe,
mail.compose.wrap_to_window_width. Default is false.
Don't forget that the font you are using may impact things. I'm using a
constant width font.
I found and installed an add-on extension for Thunderbird that seems to
work pretty well. It just auto-wrapped this sentence as I typed.
..........1.........2.........3.........4.........5.........6.........7......
Again - looking good. Don't forget to subtrace the 2-3 characters used here
to mark quoted text.
It is still not wrapped when I read it. It is at window width. As mine
will not be when put out on the news group. Though when I send it, both
your message and mine are wrapped correctly. Yes, I installed the same
extension.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't appear wrapped for you. The quoted text
_normally_ is lines, beginning with the '>' character, and ending with a
hard return. On my server, the files are seen to be that way. For example,
the line beginning 'I found and installed' above looks like this when using
'hexdump' on the file itself.

I don't know how it appears to non-Thunderbird readers. Maybe Moe can
tell us.
Looks fine.
