Any ideas on what happened this time would be

a number of threads about glibc-common- but they
didn't seem to have any bearing on my problem.
Why are you installing RH9?, it's been obsolete for years and it's
unsupported. You have a new machine, install a new distro that has support
for your hardware. I'd suggest you try Fedora Core 5 which is the most
recent Redhat distro.
