I would just like to get opinions about the RH certification. HowHey,
important is it in the industry? Is it like what the MCSE used to be
for MS? I don't see it publicized alot. Obviously, experience is more
important, but give some opinions if it is asked of in your city as
far as job requirements when seeking employment. I know where i live,
Linux jobs in general, is steadily growing as far as job opportunity,
but i have rarely seen one that requires RH certification. I've only
seen 2-3 positions that require it over the past 2 yrs. Thanks.
I don't think certifications are all that important. But, if you have
experience behind you, it can give you a leg up on competition.
Certifications IMHO are useless to GET a job unless you have experience.
The whole MCSE bootcamp thing did nothing more than ensure you had to
be an MCSE to work on a helpdesk - but it was sold as a 'manage
enterprise systems after this course' type idea. Having the experience
also makes the cert a little easier to do. :) I have a bunch of certs,
but do not flaunt them on my CV ,I flaunt my experience. Being a
contractor as I am, once you get in at a place, the RFP may 'change' to
include the certification (due to client wanting to keep you), which
helps get rid of a lot of people that may even be more experienced than
you...So, doesn't hurt. :)
