Hi,

Hello All,

I'm running vsftpd on redhat 8.0

which version of vsftpd?

It is up and running. I can connect from localhost with a system user,

what user? vsftpd (at least 2.0.1 - the version i can access in the moment)
has a configuration file /etc/vsftpd.user_list that does, with standard
configuration, system users not allow to log in.

but can not connect from any remote machine. I get the "connect closed
by remote host" error message when attempting to connect from a Windows
command line.

Do you run a firewall on the box? As far as i remember rh8, there is no
firewall activated by default. Run a 'iptables -L' on the linux box, to
see what is configured.

Vsftpd by default has tcp-wrappers support compiled in: what about your
'/etc/hosts.allow' and 'etc/hosts.deny'? However, but I am not sure for
the windoze ftp-client, the message should be some other.

On your linux box, try to run a 'netstat -ap | grep vsftpd' to see whether
it is listening or not. Do you run vsftd as a standalone server or out of
xinetd?

So at all you have to provide us with a little bit more of information to
be able to help you.

Best,
Georg
