Can someone please point me to a resource that describes EXACTLY the RIGHT
way (as contrasted with all of the various and assorted WRONG ways, most
of which I've tried at one time or another) to install updated sources so
that all of the modules directories end up in the right places and the
.config file is the correct .config file for the source?
For example, there is the "generic" kernel 2.6.17, and there is the
specific kernel 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5 that is apparently configured
specifically for Fedora Core 5. Installing the former apparently creates
all kinds of problems that are mitigated by the latter.
Fedora Core 5, out of the box, comes with kernel 2.6.15-<something>. I'm
going to have to install FC5 in a new box, and am also installing some
stuff (specifically Asterisk) that needs the kernel sources for some
reason AND requires 2.6.17 or later, so I need to know the RIGHT way to
install the sources for 2.6.17 so that I don't get complaints about
modules not being available etc.
I also need to find out how to configure or find the correct .config file
that goes with the installed kernel, so that I can start from a known
starting point when reconfiguring the kernel.
I know there are some resources that explain all of this, all I need is a
pointer.
Thanks...
This will do it...
