Re: Boot loader newbie confusion

Well for some reason for the last few releases, RH adds the "hiddenmenu"
line to grub, and sets timeout to 5secs. This reults in a screen that
says, something like, "booting FC5 in 5 secs press any key to enter
menu". A lot of people seem to be missing this screen, and it boots
straight into FC5. But it's very easy to fix, you just comment out
"hidenmenu" and increase the time out to a more reasonable number In
/boot/grub/grub.conf

When you "press any key" the menu comes up with FC5 and "other"

"other" can also be easily changed to windows or XP or whatever you prefer

Thanks for that information. It turned
out I didn't wipe out XP after all.
I had been misreading the df output.
When I loaded my trusty old Windows 98
recovery floppy and used fdisk to examine
the partitions, I saw that they were as
I set them up originally. So I deleted
the Linux partitions and then installed
FC 5 as you said to. Then, knowing what
to look for on reboot, I caught the
menu and was able to choose which OS to
boot.

Now that everything's safe and sound,
I notice that from within Linux I don't have
access to the Windows volume like I do
in RH 6. This must have something to do
with the fact that Fedora doesn't allow
me to set a mount point in that partition.
Is this a basic design change or is there
a different way to set up access to the
Windows volume?
