Fedora? Red Hat Enterprise Linux? Which version? From the list of

configuration, plus the documentation. I did not get to see what was on
thdisks 4,5 or 6, since when I inserted those disks, a log in console
would appear...so I am not sure how to get those files onto the hard
drive, or even if I need them...I did download the following file, and it
is residing in the directory /home/ron/samba-3.0.22-1.i386.rpm
Is this useful?
Thank you very much..
Ron
Boy will that open a can of worms. RHL 9 is pretty old, others will tell you how old. The RedHat Linux distro was split into Fedora Core (Free) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (For Fee). Fedora Core is now at version 5. So there have been 5 versions since RHL 9. FC6 is going to be released next month. Since I tossed my RHL 9 CDs a few weeks ago and don't have it running, I don't have the list of what is where on the disks. (Disks 4 thru 6 are source CDs.)
If you really want to stay with RHL 9, just copy the /RedHat/RPMS/*samba* files to /tmp and issue, as root,
rpm -Uvh /tmp/*samba*rpm
I think, though cannot remember for sure, that the Add/Remove Software application will ask for the CDs it needs if you tell it to install samba.
Though you really should move to a more current version, like FC5, centOS 4.4, scientific 4.3, white box 4.1, RHEL 4.4, or other modern distro. (These are all Red Hat variants, though not all the Red Hat variants.)
Fedora Core 5 is on 5 CDs or 1 DVD. These are all software disks, not source disks.
Ken
