Multi-Site Domain controller

I currently have a NT 4 server with about 40 win9x workstations and a
windows 2k3 server with about 70 work stations. Both servers and their
corresponding clients are in different towns. We don't have a lot of
money to spend on licencing so id though itd be a good time to switch
to linux rather than changing the NT4 server a 2k3 and paying the money

to do so. Also the main software were use is coming out linux only with

the next release. We will purchase redhat enterprise for our server os
and then after about 6 months or so start moving the client desktops to

fedora.

Does anyone have experience with making/managing a linux domain
controller? Iv always heard of samba and nis. But im also interesting
in OpenLdap. What makes them stand apart? Whats their pros and cons.
Would IPSec on our routers/gateways be a good way to connect them?

Thanks,
Russell Perkins
