What is it with you Linux advocates that you feel the need to

The last test I did between slowaris and Linux used a Java application.
Running the same app, using Sun's Java, Slowaris 9 running on sparcs Linux
(a mandrake but I forgot which version) on intel based hardware costing
half of what the sparcs. We got the same amount of work done on both. So,

SO you're comparing the performance of Solaris on SPARC against
Linux on x86? <sarcasm>That's *very* scientific of you.</sarcasm>

Linux did the same work at half the hardware costs. Slowaris may have
improved, but IMHO it is still slow.

Try the latest version of Solaris 10 or Solaris Express on some
modern x86 machines, and come back with your findings. Oh, and
how about this:

http://www.geekpatrol.ca/blog/161/

That guy's results are the following (higher numbers are better):

Solaris: 172.8
Linux: 160.4

Oh dear, it looks like "Linsux" would perhaps be the more appropriate
pejorative to be throwing around, eh?

The ironic thing with all this Solaris bashing is that for the
true techies out there in Linux land, looking at Solaris might
well prove to be interesting on a technical/geek level. Of course,
if you just want to worship the ground Linux walks on, that's fair
enough too, but please don't try to pass it off as technical
disussion.

Oh yea, this makes sense...

From their site:

Linux

* Fedora Core 4 or Ubuntu 6 for x86 (other distributions might work)

Download choices:

Download

* Mac OS X (Universal Binary, 32-bit)
* Mac OS X (Universal Binary, 64-bit)
* Windows (32-bit)
* Windows (64-bit)
* Solaris (32-bit)
* Solaris (64-bit)
* Linux (Fedora Core 4 or Ubuntu 6)

No mention if the Linux, which is intended for FC4, is 32 or 64 bit, but I bet he ran the 64 bit Solaris code. (The Solaris code doesn't say which version it was compiled for, but I bet it was 10, as it is new.)
