Please give me some ideas.
I'm having numerous problems with Fedora Core 6. On boot up I get a
Start service cpuspeed, Start mcstrans and numerous ACPI pid
2357 errors. Once booted I can not access my printer, a Compaq/ Lexmark,
or my removable floppy drive ( but KDE sees it) When I try to install
Netscape, I get /bin/sh: bad interpeter: Permission denied. ( yes,
under root)
This is on a Intel 815 motherboard with 512 ram and a Intel P-III 800
processor with a ATI 9550 AGP video card. These all worked fine with
Fedrora Core 3 and a 80 gig hd. Now it has a 160 gig hd and I'm
trying to get Core 6 to run.
So far, I have verified the cd's. Put Core 5 on and reinstall Core 6.
Resized the hard drive and reformatted it. Downloaded all updates ( slow
on a dial up). If haven't found anything in the MAN pages of help
that give me a clue of what it is trying to tell me is wrong.
Thanks is advance for any advise.
A simple answer is to disable ACPI in the 815 bios.
Or try booting acpi=off from the Grub boot menu.
You can also turn off services you don't need like cpuspeed, mcstrans, etc.
