Hi all,
I am in the process of upgrading from 2.4 to 2.6 and noticed that in
the new menuconfig there aren't two of the drivers/modules/builtins i
needed in kernel 2.4:
- the multiport serial builtin
- iptables & its family modules

are these built into the base kernel nowadays? where did they go?
thanks!

(using "make menuconfig")

Networking -> Networking Options -> Network Packet Filtering
(IP: Netfilter Configuration - IP tables support)

Device Drivers -> Character devices -> Serial Drivers ->
multiport? Under Extended 8250/16550 options?

If you wish to use any non-standard features of the standard "dumb"
driver, say Y here. This includes HUB6 support, shared serial
interrupts, special multiport support, support for more than the
four COM 1/2/3/4 boards, etc.

I remember upgrading from 2.4 to 2.6 on Fedora Core1 ... ouch.
Now modules are handled in /etc/modprobe.conf.
Need various new programmes. /sys directory (I believe that is
new in 2.6). There are some web pages (I had to search several).

Try a search (google) on
"kernel 2.6" Core1
since Fedora Core1 came with a 2.4 kernel.

I am now up to Core2 (with various bits upgraded - kernel 2.6.19).
