Re: Configuring GNOME to automatically start screensaver after user logged in - Fedora Core 6

Hi Tore,

I have considered VNC and have successfully configured it. My only
problem with VNC is that I cannot view the real X display (:0). VNC
only deals with virutal displays and I require the real X display.
Vino allows you to connect to the real X display, but only after that
user has logged in locally.

In case you're wondering why I want the real X display, it is because I
have the desktop connected to a TV using S-video. I want to control
what is being viewed on the TV (from the desktop's real X display)
remotely. Only display 0 will work with the s-video out, not virutal
desktops.

If anybody knows how to configure VNC to use the real X display
(desktop 0) that would also solve my problem, but from what I've read
that cannot be done.

Thanks.

Brian

Hi All,

I'm trying to configure Vino (GNOME Remote Desktop) on a computer I
have so that I can VNC into the box efficiently. As of right now, Vino
will only work once the user is manually logged into the desktop. I'm
trying to basically set something up so that I can VNC into computer on
the real X display (display 0) without having to first manually log in
at the desktop (get rid of the monitor keyboard and mouse). I'm
basically trying to achieve what VNC will do on Windows.

I have no experience with Vino, but I use vncserver when I need to have
remote desktop access to my FC6 server.
Have you tried configuring vncserver on your computer and accessing it using
vnc?
