my 56k dialup internal modem (V.92 Data/Fax/Voice) is not working on linux

my 56k internal V.92 Data/Fax/voice modem works fine on Windows. But
on linux after installing the rpm package i am not able to connect to
internet. I installed redhat with Gnome. the modem gets installed. But
it is not seen on the hardware browser. Although the /dev/modem link
exists for the modem. do i require any seperate dialer software to
dial and connect ? in Windows it happens automatically when you open
internet explorer. But in redhat linux do i require any seperate
dialer software apart from mozilla ??
