That's great - Rob Clark's "Winmodems are not Modems" web page listed over
1100 devices that called themselves modems. Some work, some don't. What
KIND of 56k internal V.92 Data/Fax/voice modem do you have?

But on linux after installing the rpm package i am not able to connect to
internet. I installed redhat with Gnome.

Which version of Red Hat?

the modem gets installed. But it is not seen on the hardware browser.
Although the /dev/modem link exists for the modem. do i require any
seperate dialer software to dial and connect ?

Red Hat and Gnome both have dialers as part of their installation.

in Windows it happens automatically when you open internet explorer. But
in redhat linux do i require any seperate dialer software apart from
mozilla ??

Internet Exploder and Mozilla are both web browser _applications_ and
depend on the operating system for a network connection. IE is tightly
integrated with windoze, and recognizes when you haven't figured out how
to configure Dial Up Networking - which is a just another application in
windoze. Linux tends to give you much greater choice, and actually does
keep the operating system separate from the browser. Linux comes with a
lot of documentation, and you _are_ posting from a search engine. Rather
than blindly clicking on icons and hoping things work, you should be
reading the instructions first. For example:

[compton ~]$ whatis wvdial
wvdial (1) - PPP dialer with built-in intelligence.
[compton ~]$

You _could_ even look for gnome-ppp which should be installed as well.
