Hi,

I've tried a couple of iterations of upgrading my Fedora Core 5 machine
to Fedora Core 6. The problem is that there are some minor dependencies
that are stopping the whole process.

I tried using the command

yum -y --exclude="mozilla*" --exclude=gtkhtml --exclude=mplayer upgrade

Then I get several hundred lines of packages that will be updated, then
it does some dependency processing, and finally it terminates with:

--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: mozilla = 37:1.7.13-1.1.fc5 for package:
mozilla-mail
--> Processing Dependency: libgnomecanvaspixbuf.so.1 for package: gtkhtml
--> Processing Dependency: liblzo.so.1 for package: mplayer
--> Processing Dependency: libdirectfb-0.9.so.24 for package: mplayer
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: mozilla = 37:1.7.13-1.1.fc5 is needed by
package mozilla-mail
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnomecanvaspixbuf.so.1 is needed by
package gtkhtml
Error: Missing Dependency: liblzo.so.1 is needed by package mplayer
Error: Missing Dependency: libdirectfb-0.9.so.24 is needed by package
mplayer
[root@black yum.repos.d]#

My understanding from reading the yum manpage is that the --exclude
switch would exclude these packages from consideration, but that is not
happening. I suspect that the dependency in mozilla-mail is due to a
typographical error because I already have mozilla-1.7.13-1.1.fc5. I
don't care at all about gtkhtml. If mplayer did not upgrade, then I
would be okay with that.

Any advice, please?

Many thanks,

Jeff

A yum upgrade from FC5 to FC6 is something that is not supported but
can indeed be done.
The first step would be to manually download the fedora-release RPM
for FC6 and install that and any other required pacakages before
running "yum upgrade".
