Bonded NIC to redundant switches

I am wondering if it is possible to bond 2 NIC's on a single RedHat
box with each of said NIC's going to a different switch. Essentially I
want to be able to use both NIC's as a one virtual connection to
effectively double my throughput; however, in the event that 1 of the
switches, or 1 of the NIC's in the group fails, traffic will slow
down, but not get cut off.

Is this even possible? Is it dependent on the type of switch (HP
Procurve, Cisco Catalyst)? Is it dependent on the version of RedHat?
Any guidance on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
