Sounds like it is telling you the problem you are trying to solve is the hard drive is not responding. Reseat the power connector and the data cable at both ends. Also watch for the HD light flashing when booting. See if the BIOS recognizes it as installed.
My experience is that it is usually corrected by reseating the connectors. Worst news was one time it was an intermittent socket on the motherboard. If so look for a bare bones kit with only a power supply, motherboard and CPU that will hold your drives, RAM and whatever else you have. If you this is an older machine the RAM may not be compatible and you need compatible RAM but everything else should be a simple replacement. Think $100 or so.
