Does anyone have a good backup script for a tape library. I cannot
figure how to chage tapes after the tape has been filled.
I know how to change tapes and know how to write to the tape....
Thanks
Which tape Library are you using, do you have a specific software
( like Legato, amanda ..)
Zoot
I am using a IBM TS3100. I am just trying with tar right now. I
think I am going to start using AMANDA in the future. Thanks for the
reply.
1)Isn't IBM selling some soft along with their TapeLIbrary, such as
Legato ?
2)If such a soft is too expensive, consider AMANDA ASAP don't wast too
much time with scripting, you will have to do some even while using a
soft like AMANDA or Legato ro any other.
every UnixLike I know have tape devices known as /dev/st0 and /dev/
nst0 (on Linux ) Nst0 stand for non rewind on close, it allow multiple
files on the same volume.
Once the backup is done ( with tar, cpio, dump .. ) do a mt -f
<device> rewind followed by a mt -f <device> offline. some Unix ( As
Solaris ) accept a mt -f <device> rewoffl
Hope this help.
