How boot FC 5 to plain TTY terminal mode?

In a Fedora Core 5 installation I just
finished using the custom-build route,
I _think_ I declined both GNOME and KDE
desktops. So why does it boot to
a windows manager? When I press
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, which is supposed
to kill X, it just recycles to the
same default window manager. What I
want is to boot to plain TTY mode,
and be able to start X manually.
