Well if you knew more about what I have going on, you might not think
so. I've been running root under GUI's as a developer for well over 8
years at this point whether under IRIX, Solaris, BSD or Linux with no
security problems but I'm more than aware of the security issues and my
behavior under a GUI environment is likely different from what you're
used to experiencing with most users.
Regardless, nothing you suggested worked as the problem ended up being
caused by a botched install of an update apparently(done under an
environment you would condone, ironically) and a backup/reinstall(as
well as ditching my dying nvidia card) put me back to GUI goodness
without the nag.
