The reason I was trying to compile the code is that I have no idea
what I'm doing and I didn't know there was another way to do it. When
I search the web for "upgrade apache" and "red hat" the only
instructions I found were the ./configure, make, and make install
commands. The red hat box I'm working with now is just for testing
and it's not registered with Red Hat (I don't think we have the
registration code- we lost it or something). If I don't install
Apache by compiling the code, then how do I go about upgrading
Apache? Can I download and install an RPM package for Apache 2.2.6?
Remember, I am brand new to Linux. Thanks for your earlier reply.
Well, I got the problems solved. I downloaded the RPM file... it
didn't work as an RPM file, but I extracted the files from the apach
2.2.6.tar.gz file in the RPM file and successfully performed the ,/
config, make, and make install. I have a new problem, however. When
I try to restart apache it tells me:
Apache 1.3 configuration directives found
please read /usr/share/doc/httpd-2.0.52/migration.html
I think the problem is that both 2.0.52 and 2.2.6 are installed now,
either that or an init file is pointing to an outdated place. Geez, if
it's not one problem it's another problem.
Any ideas? How do I do an install of both versions (if that is indeed
the problem) so I can just install 2.2.6? Thanks.
