No response, so will pose a different question along the same lines.
Would anyone know what would be a good video to card to get, that I
could use the Open Source driver (provided with kernel)that would
provide me with the the full range of compiz-fusion eye candy?
Does such a beast exist (yet)? I know the NVidia and ATI cards have
blobs, but am looking to steer clear of them.
Why? They are pretty standard for linux, from what I've seen.
I suspect the problem is not a lack of compatible video cards, but
that the drivers/window managers haven't been sufficiently optimized
to operation reasonably fast. I'm using an nVidia NV34/GeForce FX5200
with the manufacturer's drivers installed and it's still pretty much
a dog, but this is only on FC6 - things may have improved in F8.
