Linux with a modem

Hi,

As far as I know, modems are accepted with Linux.. Kernel 2.6 ...

I wish to plug a Winmodem on my machine.
but I would like to connect to ADSL and NOT to a normal connection
In other words, I don't want to use a laptop connecting to Internet, via
the modem, but to be able to transform my linux box as modem/router

Any idea how to do this ?
Any suggestion would be appreciate, I cannot find any application, which
can accept parameters like VCI......etc.....

Thansks
.
