I have here RHEL 4.6 running:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 6)
With the given php version I can reproduce this bug:

And I have to stay with version 4 due to some given constraints.
What would be the best way now to get a redhat supported php version
5.1.x or higher? Should I contact them and ask for it? How?

Hello Amir:
As I posted before, RHEL 4.6 is due for an upgrade to RHEL 4.7 soon.
<https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2008-May/msg00052.html>
Your paid support allows you to accesshttps://www.redhat.com/
You will be asked for your Username/Password. You have then opened
the door to all manner of downloads and support help.
Even since RHEL 4.7 has been released as a beta, I can't tell if
it will have updated php binaries. I /do/ know that if you were to
try and install just those updated php binaries by themselves, you
might find yourself in "Dependency Hell" as you execute "# rpm -Uvh
php*" and even if you got beyond the php updates, you might be denied
Red Hat support for this situation.
I wonder if your above "given constraints" can be re-addressed and
solved?
If you *can* update to RHEL 4.7 beta completely, then the URL is:

Please add to this thread if I/we haven't answered your questions.
Thanks very much for the feedback. So far my questions have been
answered. I'll also try to get some feedback from Redhat and let you
about the outcome.
Regards,
Amir
