thx for your awser. yes, it's similar to Redhat. Yum works well good with " yum update " or " upgrade " but when i want to download a rpm file, i use this command " yum install xxxx.rpm ". I see a lot of packages when i type " yum search xxxx " but i can't download it.

I work under CentOS ( it's similar of mandrake's distribution )
More like RedHat
I used "yum" and "rpm" and it's doesn't work or i'm so
newbie :).
What does it mean, "I used 'yum'"? What command did you type exactly?
yum (YellowDog Update Manager) is the CentOS package management system and
works fine.
Try "yum -y update" as root.
